Sir Frederick Charles Frank was a British theoretical physicist best known for his work on crystal dislocations, including the Frank Read source, a mechanism that explains how a single dislocation in a crystal can multiply under stress. He also proposed the cyclol reaction for protein structure in the mid 1930s and contributed to solid state physics, geophysics, and the theory of liquid crystals.
