Frank Shu

Frank Hsia-San Shu was a Chinese American astrophysicist, astronomer and author who lived from June 2, 1943 to April 22, 2023, holding emeritus professorships at the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, San Diego. He proposed the density wave theory explaining the structure of spiral galaxies and developed a model of star formation in which a giant dense molecular cloud collapses to form a star. He received the 2009 Shaw Prize in Astronomy.
