Sergei Novikov (1938 to 2024) was a Soviet and Russian mathematician noted for his work in algebraic topology and soliton theory. He is known for the Adams-Novikov spectral sequence, the Novikov conjecture, and the Novikov-Veselov equation, and was awarded the Fields Medal in 1970.
