Edwin J. Vandenberg

Edwin J. Vandenberg (1918-2005) was an American polymer chemist who spent most of his career at Hercules Inc., working on catalysis and polymerization chemistry. He independently discovered isotactic polypropylene and developed new Ziegler-type catalysts, including the aluminoxane catalyst used in manufacturing polyether elastomers that came to bear his name. His work on epoxide polymerization and catalyst design earned him the American Chemical Society Priestley Medal in 2003, along with the Charles Goodyear Medal and other honors in polymer science.
