Carl David Anderson

Carl David Anderson was an American experimental physicist who spent his career at the California Institute of Technology. In 1932 he identified the positron, the antimatter counterpart of the electron, confirming a prediction of Paul Dirac's theory and providing the first evidence that antimatter exists in nature. He shared the 1936 Nobel Prize in Physics with Victor Hess. Anderson also discovered the muon in 1936 together with his graduate student Seth Neddermeyer.
