John Robert Schrieffer

Physics

John Robert Schrieffer (1931-2019) was an American theoretical physicist, born in Oak Park, Illinois. He shared the 1972 Nobel Prize in Physics with John Bardeen and Leon Cooper for their jointly developed theory of superconductivity, known as BCS theory, the first successful quantum mechanical description of how electrons pair to conduct without resistance. He is also known for the SSH model and the Schrieffer-Wolff transformation.
