Herbert Friedman

Herbert Friedman was an American physicist who lived from 1916 to 2000, a pioneer of solar X-ray research who published extensively on ultraviolet and X-ray radiation from the sun. He spent his entire forty year professional career, from 1940 to 1980, at the United States Naval Research Laboratory. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1960 and received the Eddington Medal from the Royal Astronomical Society in 1964. He received the Wolf Prize in Physics in 1987 for pioneering investigations in solar X-rays.
