Hans Georg Dehmelt

Hans Georg Dehmelt (1922-2017) was a German-American physicist. He shared the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physics with Wolfgang Paul for co-developing the ion trap technique known as the Penning trap, work that allowed extremely high precision measurement of the electron's magnetic moment. He created the first geonium atom in 1976 and captured the first photograph of a single trapped atom in 1979.
