Klaus von Klitzing, born in 1943, is a German physicist. He won the 1985 Nobel Prize in Physics for his discovery of the integer quantum Hall effect, a phenomenon observed in electrical conductors under strong magnetic fields at low temperatures in which the Hall conductance takes on precisely quantized values.
