Wilhelm Carl Werner Otto Fritz Franz Wien was a German physicist who made fundamental contributions to the understanding of heat radiation. He used theories of heat and electromagnetism to derive Wien's displacement law, which calculates the emission of a blackbody at any temperature, and he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1911 for his discoveries regarding the laws governing the radiation of heat.
