Ivar Giaever (1929-2025) was a Norwegian-American experimental physicist. He shared the 1973 Nobel Prize in Physics with Leo Esaki and Brian Josephson for his experimental discoveries of tunneling phenomena in superconductors, work that demonstrated electron tunneling across superconducting junctions and provided experimental proof of the energy gap predicted by BCS theory.
