Kunihiko Kodaira (1915 to 1997) was a Japanese mathematician known for his work in algebraic geometry and the theory of complex manifolds, regarded as the founder of the Japanese school of algebraic geometers. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 1954, becoming the first Japanese national to receive the honor.
