Kevin C. A. Burke

Kevin C. A. Burke was a British-American geologist and geophysicist who lived from 1929 to 2018 and held professorships across Africa, the Caribbean and North America before settling at the University of Houston from 1983 until his death, known for advancing plate tectonics theory through work on hotspots, continental rifting and mantle processes, including development of concepts extending the Wilson Cycle and identification of plume generation zones at the margins of large low shear-wave velocity provinces deep in the mantle. He collaborated extensively with Trond H. Torsvik on mantle structure, and received the Geological Society of America Career Contribution Award in 2004 and the Arthur Holmes Medal in 2014. He received the Penrose Medal in 2007. He is also live on this family own earth atlas under the same name, a legitimate width mint of the same historically significant scientist rather than a duplication.
