Sir Harold Walter Kroto, known as Harry Kroto, was an English chemist who shared the 1996 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Robert Curl and Richard Smalley for the discovery of fullerenes, a new form of carbon made of closed cage molecules such as buckminsterfullerene. The discovery opened an entirely new branch of carbon chemistry and materials science.
