Peter Culicover

Peter Culicover is an American linguist and distinguished university professor emeritus at Ohio State University, where he chaired the department of linguistics, directed the Center for Cognitive Science, and served as associate provost. He earned a BA in mathematics from the City College of New York in 1966 and a PhD from MIT in 1971 under Noam Chomsky, with a dissertation on syntactic and semantic investigations, and his research addresses syntactic theory, especially the syntax of English, language learnability, and computational modeling of language acquisition and change. His books include Principles and Parameters in 1997, Syntactic Nuts in 1999, Dynamical Grammar in 2003, and Simpler Syntax, co-authored with Ray Jackendoff, in 2005. He received the Humboldt Prize and the Distinguished Scholar Award of Ohio State University.
