Rafi Bistritzer

Rafi Bistritzer is an Israeli physicist, born in 1974, recognized for pioneering theoretical work on twisted bilayer graphene, specifically predicting that graphene sheets twisted at a 1.1 degree magic angle would produce flat moire bands and correlated electronic states. He manages an algorithms group at Applied Materials and was appointed associate professor at Tel Aviv University in 2020. He received the Wolf Prize in Physics in 2020, shared with Pablo Jarillo-Herrero and Allan MacDonald, for contributions to twisted bilayer graphene research.
