Norman Foster Ramsey Jr. (1915-2011) was an American physicist. He won the 1989 Nobel Prize in Physics for inventing the separated oscillatory field method, also called Ramsey interferometry, which became central to the construction of atomic clocks. He held a long professorship at Harvard University and helped found Brookhaven National Laboratory and Fermilab.
