Burton Richter

Burton Richter (1931-2018) was an American physicist. He led the team at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center that co-discovered the J/psi meson in 1974, alongside a Brookhaven National Laboratory team led by Samuel Ting, a discovery known as the November Revolution in particle physics. Richter and Ting shared the 1976 Nobel Prize in Physics for the discovery, and Richter later served as director of SLAC from 1984 to 1999.
