Juan Ignacio Cirac

Juan Ignacio Cirac Sasturain is a Spanish theoretical physicist specializing in quantum computing and quantum information, born in 1965, recognized as one of the pioneers of the field of quantum computing and quantum information theory, with notable contributions including trapped ion quantum computers, the Cirac-Zoller CNOT gate, W states, tensor network states and quantum network models. He received the Prince of Asturias Award in 2006, the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in 2008, the Benjamin Franklin Medal in Physics in 2010, the Max Planck Medal in 2018 and the John Stewart Bell Prize in 2019. He received the Wolf Prize in Physics in 2013, shared with Peter Zoller.
