David D. Pollard is an American geologist born October 12, 1943, in Pasadena, California, who is the Morris Professor of Earth Sciences, emeritus, at Stanford University. He pioneered the application of mechanical principles to structural geology, researching the mechanical processes responsible for the formation of faults, fractures, folds, and igneous intrusions, and he developed Poly3D, a boundary element computer program for modeling faults and fractures, and co-founded the software company IGEOSS, later acquired by Schlumberger in 2010. He is a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and the Geological Society of America, and received the Wollaston Medal in 2021.
