The École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, known as EPFL, is a public research university in Lausanne, Switzerland, which grew from a private school founded in 1853 and became a federal institution in 1969. It is one of the two Swiss federal institutes of technology, together with ETH Zurich, and does research in engineering, physics, life sciences and computing.
