The University of Geneva is a public research university in Switzerland, founded in 1559 by John Calvin as the Geneva Academy and given university status in 1873. It teaches and does research in the natural sciences, medicine and the humanities, and its scientists work in fields from physics and astronomy to biochemistry and the life sciences.
