The University of California, San Francisco is a public university in San Francisco devoted entirely to health sciences and graduate study, whose origins go back to the Toland Medical College of 1864. Its researchers include Elizabeth Blackburn, who shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Stanley Prusiner and Herbert Boyer.
