Ohio State University is a public land-grant research university in Columbus, Ohio, founded in 1870 as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College. It has large programs in agriculture, the physical sciences, medicine and engineering, and its Byrd Polar Research Center is known for work on ice cores. It teaches and does research across the natural sciences, medicine and the humanities.
