Particle Detector

Physical Sciences

A particle detector, also known as a radiation detector, is a device used in experimental and applied particle physics, nuclear physics and nuclear engineering to detect, track or identify ionizing particles, such as those produced by nuclear decay, cosmic radiation or reactions in a particle accelerator. The cited article adds that detectors can measure the particle energy and other attributes such as momentum, spin, charge and particle type, in addition to merely registering the presence of the particle. Instruments recorded in the atlas as particle detectors are grouped under this concept.

Instrument Class Includes

Betatron, Instruments

Entity-backed identity for the instrument-class enum value this instrument already carries, resolved to a science concept by an explicit value-to-entity map (phase 3 bucket conversion, docs\design_entity_backed_browse_buckets_20260928.md). The instrument-class fact itself stays on the instrument unchanged.
