The University of Tokyo is a national research university in Tokyo, founded in 1877 as the first imperial university of Japan. Hantaro Nagaoka and Masatoshi Koshiba, whose neutrino detector work earned the Nobel Prize in Physics, worked there, and its faculties of science, medicine and engineering made it the center of modern Japanese research. The atlas links scientists to it where their cited articles say they studied or taught there.
