The University of California, San Diego is a public research university in La Jolla, San Diego, which began as the Scripps Institution of Oceanography of 1903 and became a general campus of the University of California in 1960. It is known for oceanography, chemistry, physics, biology and medicine, and several Nobel laureates are among its faculty.
