Thomas O. Mensah

Thomas O. Mensah is a Ghanaian-American chemical engineer and materials scientist known for his contributions to the manufacturing process of optical fiber, holding multiple United States patents covering methods for coating and processing fiber during production that improved manufacturing speed, reliability and cost. His process innovations were adopted in commercial fiber optic cable manufacturing, contributing to the broader expansion of fiber optic telecommunications infrastructure from the 1980s onward. Born in Ghana, he pursued his scientific and engineering education and subsequent career in the United States, working across several materials science and nanotechnology companies he founded or led. He was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in recognition of his optical fiber patents.
