Sir Henry Hallett Dale was an English pharmacologist and physiologist known for his study of acetylcholine as an agent in the chemical transmission of nerve impulses. He shared the 1936 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Otto Loewi for this work on neurotransmission. Dale was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1914, was knighted in 1932, received the Copley Medal in 1937, and was appointed to the Order of Merit in 1944.
