George Petros Efstathiou is a British astrophysicist born September 2, 1955, who served as Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Cambridge from 1997 to 2022 and was the founding director of the Kavli Institute for Cosmology from 2008 to 2016, having earlier held the Savilian Professorship of Astronomy at Oxford. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1994 and received the 2011 Gruber Prize in Cosmology and the 2022 Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society. He shared the 2025 Shaw Prize in Astronomy with John Richard Bond.
