John Griggs Thompson is an American mathematician at the University of Florida noted for his work in finite group theory. Working with Walter Feit, he proved in 1963 that every nonabelian finite simple group has even order, a landmark result known as the Odd Order Paper, and his work significantly advanced the classification of finite simple groups.
