E. J. Crane (1889-1966), full name Evan Jay Crane, was an American chemist who served as editor of Chemical Abstracts, the major indexing and abstracting service for the chemical literature, from 1915 to 1958. He was a graduate of Ohio State University, which later awarded him an honorary doctorate of science, and he received the Priestley Medal in 1951, the American Chemical Society highest honor.
