William Francis Giauque was a Canadian born American chemist who lived from 1895 to 1982. He spent virtually his entire educational and professional career at the University of California, Berkeley, and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1949 for his studies of the properties of matter at temperatures close to absolute zero.
