Karl August Folkers

Karl August Folkers (September 1, 1906 to December 7, 1997) was an American biochemist born in Decatur, Illinois, who spent much of his career at Merck and Co. before later working at the University of Texas at Austin. He made major contributions to the isolation and identification of bioactive natural products, most notably the isolation and structural work on vitamin B12, research that helped establish how the vitamin functions in the body.
