William Howard Stein

William Howard Stein was an American biochemist who lived from 1911 to 1980. He collaborated in determining the ribonuclease sequence and how its structure relates to catalytic activity, earning the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1972 for this work. He was also involved in inventing the automatic amino acid analyzer, an advance in chromatography that opened the way to modern methods such as liquid and gas chromatography.
