Val Logsdon Fitch (1923-2015) was an American nuclear physicist. With James Cronin, he discovered CP violation through a 1964 experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory that showed the decay of neutral kaons does not respect the combined symmetry of charge conjugation and parity, a finding that fundamentally changed physicists' understanding of the laws of nature and earned the pair the 1980 Nobel Prize in Physics.
