Rodney Robert Porter was a British biochemist who shared the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1972 for determining the chemical structure of an antibody. His work on immunoglobulins established how the arms and stem of an antibody molecule are organized and how the fragments produced by cleaving it relate to its function, laying a foundation for modern immunology.
