Robin Hill

Robert Hill, known as Robin Hill, was a British plant biochemist who in 1939 demonstrated what became known as the Hill reaction of photosynthesis, showing that isolated chloroplasts release oxygen when illuminated even without carbon dioxide present. The finding proved that the release of oxygen and the fixation of carbon are separate steps of photosynthesis, and he went on to contribute to working out the Z scheme describing how light drives electron transport in the process.
