Birendra Bijoy Biswas was an Indian molecular biologist and geneticist who served as founding chairman of the Biochemistry Department and a former director of the Bose Institute in Calcutta. Known for his work on nucleic acid metabolism and the regulation of protein synthesis in plant cells, he was an elected fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Science Academy, and received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 1972.
