Giuseppe Peano was an Italian mathematician and linguist who lived from 1858 to 1932 and authored more than 200 works helping to establish mathematical logic and set theory as rigorous disciplines. He is best known for the Peano axioms, the standard axiomatization of the natural numbers, and for developing formal methods of mathematical induction. He also devised the Peano curve, an early space filling curve showing that one dimensional and two dimensional spaces can have equal cardinality, and later created Latino sine flexione, a constructed language based on simplified Latin grammar intended to aid international communication.
