Alan Fersht

Sir Alan Roy Fersht is a British chemist at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge and an emeritus professor in the University of Cambridge's Department of Chemistry, where he served as Master of Gonville and Caius College from 2012 to 2018. Working at the interface of chemistry, molecular biology, and biophysics, he is regarded as a founder of protein engineering, the discipline that uses site directed mutagenesis to test how a protein's structure determines its function and stability.
