Asok Kumar Barua was an Indian condensed matter physicist and honorary Emeritus Professor at the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, who focused his research on optics and optoelectronics. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, its fourth highest civilian award, in 2003.
