Bidyut Baran Chaudhuri

Bidyut Baran Chaudhuri, born in 1950, is an Indian computer scientist who spent roughly three decades as a professor at the Indian Statistical Institute and now holds emeritus and adjunct positions at Techno India University and the Indian Statistical Institute. His research centers on computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition, and he is recognized as a pioneer of optical character recognition for Indian language scripts. He founded the Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Unit at the Indian Statistical Institute in 1994, was named an IEEE Life Fellow in 2016, and has been ranked among the world's top two percent of scientists in Stanford University research rankings.
