Physics

Biswa Ranjan Nag (1932-2004) was an Indian physicist who specialized in the theory of electron transport in semiconductors. He held the Sisir Kumar Mitra chair professorship at Rajabazar Science College of the University of Calcutta, authored three monographs on semiconductor transport theory, and published around 190 research papers demonstrating effects such as the temperature independence of two-dimensional electron gases and alloy scattering in semiconducting solids, work that also informed the development of microwave communication and radar devices. He received the J.C. Bose Memorial Prize in 1964 and the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 1974, and was elected a fellow of the Indian National Science Academy in 1978.
