Butler Lampson

Computer Science

Butler Lampson is an American computer scientist whose work helped establish distributed personal computing as a practical technology. At Xerox PARC he contributed to the SDS 940 time-sharing system and the Xerox Alto, an early personal computer with a graphical interface that influenced later systems including the Macintosh and Windows. He received the 1992 ACM Turing Award for these contributions.
