Charles John Pedersen was an American organic chemist best known for discovering crown ethers and describing methods of synthesizing them during his forty-two-year career as a chemist for DuPont. He shared the 1987 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with Donald Cram and Jean-Marie Lehn.
