D. Terence Langendoen

Donald Terence Langendoen is an American linguist born June 7, 1939, in Paterson, New Jersey, who earned a BS and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1961 and 1964, taught at Ohio State University from 1964 to 1969 and at Brooklyn College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York from 1969 to 1988, and later spent seventeen years at the University of Arizona before retiring as professor emeritus in 2005. He served as a program director for linguistics at the National Science Foundation beginning in 2006, taking a part time role in the Robust Intelligence program in 2008 before retiring at the end of 2021, and his research and writing address phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, psycholinguistics, and the history of linguistics, including the 1968 book The London School of Linguistics, the 1969 book The Study of Syntax, and The Vastness of Natural Language, co-authored with Paul Postal in 1984.
