Emmanuelle Marie Charpentier (born 11 December 1968) is a French academic, microbiologist, geneticist, and biochemist, director at the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology in Berlin since 2015. In 2020, Charpentier and American biochemist Jennifer Doudna were awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of a method for genome editing through CRISPR, the first science Nobel Prize won by two women only.
