George Graham was an English clockmaker, instrument maker and geophysicist who trained under Thomas Tompion and became a leading maker of precision clocks and astronomical instruments in early eighteenth century London. He designed the clockwork planetary demonstration mechanism that the instrument maker John Rowley copied around 1712 for Charles Boyle, 4th Earl of Orrery, from which the device took its English name, orrery. Graham also discovered the diurnal variation of Earth's magnetic field and served as Master of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers.
