Henry Gilman (May 9, 1893 to November 7, 1986) was an American organic chemist born in Boston, Massachusetts, who spent his career as a professor at Iowa State University and is remembered as the father of organometallic chemistry. He discovered the Gilman reagent, an organocuprate compound that bears his name and remains a standard tool for forming carbon-carbon bonds in organic synthesis. He studied under E. P. Kohler and was elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Society in recognition of his contributions to the field.
